Paul and Maz
RATS Charity Shop
Paul has been volunteering for the charity for over 20 years, mostly as a trustee and began as the dog team leader. Paul's mum was volunteering in the shop and as time went on, he would help her out. I (Maz) started later about five years ago when I just priced stock upstairs on a Saturday at Hitchin street.
When we both retired and the shop moved to Market Place we decided to work together again - we had previously worked together in retail management.
Our aim is to be the best charity shop in town and since moving to our new premises we have seen the takings take off!
There are many challenges including keeping the shop fresh and ensuring the takings continue to climb. This is our reward seeing the shop doing well.
We are both huge animal lovers, so volunteering for RATS makes us feel we are doing our best to raise money for all the animals that need help and homes.

Beckie
Canine Companion
I got involved with RATS around two years ago and I have absolutely adored every minute of it.
I have learned so much about dogs since being with RATS, from a dog's body language to the many breeds I've never seen before. I've also learned patience as not every dog's history is the same and some do require more love and time.
I love having the opportunity to spend time with the rescue dogs, giving them TLC and training and slowly watching how their trust and heart grows despite their past, it's beautiful.
Thank you for this wonderful opportunity, RATS and for all you do.
